Permeable Paver Installation in New Paltz, NY
A Cost Effective, Better Way to Manage Storm Water
What is Permeable Pavement?
Here's how it works. The paver itself is not actually permeable, it's the space between each paver joint that allows the water to flow through to the ground.
Depending on how much precipitation the paver area sees, you may or may not need additional drainage built in, under the paver. In most areas, the permeable nature of the installation can accommodate runoff and the water will return immediately to the natural water table.
If you have an area that has a lot of runoff, like a parking lot, an under drain is an easy add on. It’s an environmentally conscious way to have a patio, walkway, driveway, or other hard surface without having to redirect water from roof runoff into storm drains.
Permeable pavement comes in many forms, but we primarily install permeable pre-cast concrete pavers. Here’s a diagram to give you the idea.
Mark Masseo Demonstrates How Permeable Pavers Work
Since the pavers themselves come in a huge variety of textures and colors, you can have an environmentally friend installation that fits your style as well.
Permeable Pavement can be used for:
Why Use Permeable?
Because it’s great for the environment! Outdoor hard surfaces like tradition patios or driveways redirect roof runoff and other water to storm drains. With permeable pavers, the water is filtered and returns to recharge the groundwater right in your backyard.
They also come with a built-in drainage system. Depending on the volume of water your paver area needs to accommodate, you can usually skip surface drains and other drainage systems, saving you a little up front. It also cuts down on repair and cleaning costs that come with traditional surface drainage systems.
Commercial Permeable Pavements
Permeable pavement walkways and parking lots can be the perfect way to make your business landscape sustainable. With the right installation, permeable pavers can stand up to years of foot and vehicular traffic.
